That comment hit home. Tim wasn't sure how Dick could possibly have more blood on his hands than he. There had been so many deaths since Tim had started leading the Titans that he had considered more than once simply stepping away for good. He had lost far too many friends, family, teammates... that, more than anything, was why he really wanted to make sure he did things right this time. His glance slid sideways to his brother. Dick understood that. Ultimately, they were always trying to protect the people around them. Whether or not he liked what Dick was saying, Tim knew that he was looking out for him, just like he always did.
"Look, I'm not going to pretend to agree with everything you said," Tim acknowledged, prodding at the dwindling rice with his chopsticks, "but I honestly appreciate the advice, since you really do know. It's just..." he made a face and shrugged one shoulder. "I dunno. Something I need to figure out on my own, I guess. But still, thanks." Dick didn't - couldn't - understand his fear. This might be one of those rare topics Tim was better off talking to Bruce about. Dick, for all of the negative things he had experienced in his life, was always the optimistic one. He had his darker moments, sure, but unlike Bruce, he wasn't waging a constant battle against his inner demons. Maybe that allowed him to make decisions with a clearer mind. Tim envied that.
The comment about Starfire garnered about the sort of reaction he was expecting. Tim scoffed openly. "Yeah. Uh huh. Things," he grinned, fully aware that a punch to the shoulder was likely on its way. He knew what Dick considered Starfire to be good at and it didn't have anything to do with the JLA. That wasn't to say that she was useless in other regards - far from it - but if Dick was selecting members based on specific knowledge then she didn't exactly fit the bill and they both knew it. Tim snorted as he leaned over to check and see if Dick had left any noodles behind. No such luck. "Are you kidding?" he chuckled as he resumed his seat, picking at the last few grains of rice in the box. "I like Kory, but it's been really nice to not have to worry about the Tower being blown up because Bart tore up her garden." Besides, as attractive as Starfire obviously was, Tim had never been able to really look at her that way. She was his older brother's ex and one of the veteran Titans who had led the team when he first joined; that put her more into big sister/mentor territory than anything else.
His thoughts were interrupted by the mention of Damian, and the light scowl touched back on Tim's face. He still couldn't believe that kid was Robin, especially to Dick's Batman. Cassandra's history had been questionable enough when she first joined the family, but at least she had showed remorse and an understanding that life was precious. Damian would be happy to use lethal force if any of them would allow it. He went against everything they stood for... but none of that was anything Tim had yet to share. He was surprised that Dick would allow Damian to go anywhere unsupervised, though. "What, did he get called back to the Ninth Circle?" he grumbled, poking at the bottom of the empty box with the end of a chopstick as though it might make more food appear... or as though he was stabbing Damian in the face.
