The trait most people will initially notice about Tim is his incredible level of intelligence. He has always been gifted mentally and excels both in academics and in real-life scenarios. He is exceedingly observant and capable of taking what may seem to be the slightest of details and putting them together to solve a puzzle. His mind is easily his greatest weapon; though initially his physical strength and martial arts abilities were sub-par, he has always been able to use his intellect to outwit his opponents and find creative solutions to various problems. This ability, along with his working knowledge of modern technology, has caused Batman to predict that Tim's detective skills will surpass his own. His intelligence has also allowed him to become an expert tactician as well as an effective leader, as he is able of analyzing each person's strengths and weaknesses and organizing them as efficiently as possible.
Tim's intelligence and skills as a detective can also be his weakness; he has the tendency to become almost obsessed with cases, particularly those that hold a special significance to him. More than once have the people around him voice their concerns when he is seemingly pulled too far into a case. He is not one to back down from a challenge, however, and instead chooses to think over every possible outcome. What may appear to be the actions of a delusional or reckless young man are actually part of a thoroughly thought-out plan; if Tim's well-being is put at risk, it is only because he has deemed it necessary to accomplish his goal. He is extremely dedicated both to his job and to the people around him. He will go to any means possible to protect his loved ones, even if it should mean his own death.
Part of this unrelenting ferocity toward defending his loved ones is based on the fact that Tim has already endured the deaths of a great number of people in his life. He carries these losses heavily wherever he goes, and has been described by Tam Fox as "the saddest person I have ever met." Each death appears to impact him more and more, seemingly pushing him to the brink of madness at times and causing him to make questionable judgment calls. While he spends a great deal of time grieving those he has lost, Tim also chooses to draw what he can from these experiences and use them to better himself. From every loss, there is some gain.
Outside of his work, Tim is a relatively normal young man. He has an easygoing nature and polite manner that allows him to get along well with most of the people around him. He has a quick wit that surfaces in clever quips or sarcastic comments whenever he feels comfortable enough to do so. His patience is, perhaps, one of his greatest strengths; though he can certainly reach the point of exasperation when pushed enough, Tim typically is able to deal with quite a lot before losing patience. Rarely does his temper reveal itself, but when it does, most are wise enough to get out of the way.

Tim Drake's life changed the day he went to the circus. As a child, he attended Haly's Circus the night that Dick Grayson's parents were killed. Years later, he viewed footage of Batman and Robin apprehending the penguin and recognized the quadruple somersault that Robin performed. It was a rare maneuver that only one living person could successfully complete: Dick Grayson. After discovering that Dick was the ward of Bruce Wayne, Tim deduced the identities of Batman and Robin. For a time, he kept this information to himself and kept track of their activity from a distance, including when Dick Grayson became Nightwing and Jason Todd adopted the role of Robin. Following Jason's death, Tim noticed that Batman was becoming increasingly reckless. He approached Nightwing and convinced him that Batman needed help. After Nightwing brought Tim to the Batcave, he quickly departed to help Batman deal with Two Face. Alfred, who understood that Tim was there as a replacement Robin, helped him rescue Batman and Nightwing. Following this, Batman allowed Tim to take over as Robin on a trial basis.
Tim's parents were later kidnapped by Obeah Man during a trip to the Caribbean. His mother, Janet, was killed; his father, Jack, was paralyzed and required physical therapy. Tim was given Batman's approval to officially become Robin shortly afterward, thus initiating a tour around the world where Tim underwent intense martial arts training, even from the likes of Lady Shiva, however inadvertently. He eventually befriended Impulse and Superboy, and they would go on to found Young Justice, a team of young heroes. When Young Justice dissolved following the death of Donna Troy, Tim, Superboy, Impulse (later known as Kid Flash) and Wonder Girl were soon recruited to join the newest incarnation of the Teen Titans. Tim's father discovered his secret identity some time later, and he was forced to give up the role of Robin. At this time Stephanie Brown took up the mantle, but she was fired shortly afterward an Tim, in the midst of the gang war overrunning Gotham, resumed his duties as Robin despite his father's wishes. This time, Jack Drake understood the necessity and reluctantly agreed to allow Tim to continue operating as Robin.
When several heroes' loved ones were attacked, Jack Drake was among them. He contacted Tim through Oracle, telling him that there was an intruder in the home and that a gun had been mysteriously left there with a note instructing Jack to protect himself. Tim was unable to arrive in time, and Jack was killed by the intruder, who turned out to be Captain Boomerang (and who was also killed in the fight). Despite initially being reluctant to do so, Tim was eventually adopted by Bruce Wayne. Following Bruce's death later on, Tim once again resigned as Robin and allowed Damian Wayne to take on the role once Dick Grayson had become Batman. Believing that Bruce was still alive, Tim assumed the title of Red Robin and began a trip around the world to search for Bruce. After several encounters with Ra's al Ghul, Tim returned to Gotham with evidence that Bruce was alive, but lost in time. He worked alongside Stephanie Brown, now the new Batgirl, as they helped protect Gotham. Tim also aided in locating Bruce Wayne and bringing him back to the present.

"Okay, that doesn't look right."
Tim frowned behind his mask as he stared down at the corpse. What had once been a man now resembled an oversized mass of muscle tissue contorted into an unnatural pose, his face strained and purple. Had he been standing, he probably would have dwarfed Superman. Very infrequently had Tim ever seen a person of such gargantuan size. What was more alarming than his physique was the fact that man's muscles almost appeared to have taken on a mind of their own. His structure was just... off. Tim squatted down next to the body and removed one glove so that he could press his fingers to the side of the man's thick neck. No pulse, of course. If he had to make a guess right then and there, he would guess that the man had been dead for only a few hours. Not surprising. There was no way it would have taken long for anybody to find a corpse that size.
The young detective twisted his lips as he tugged his glove back over his hand. Even for as long as he had been in this game, he wasn't sure that he had ever seen something like this. The first thing that came to mind was Venom, but that wasn't known for killings its users. Tim supposed that a massive overdose of the drug could do the trick, though usually it did its most damage during withdrawals... which this guy was very clearly not in the middle of. That brought him back to overdosing, but that would take a lot of Venom, and it wasn't exactly easy to get a hold of. Dick had mentioned a Venom-based stimulant being moved through Gotham; could this be the result? Tim retrieved a small flashlight from his belt and lowered himself onto his stomach so he could shine it on the underside of the man's neck. At least having so much muscle mass helped prop him up, though Tim wrinkled his nose with disappointment when the light was beamed onto the base of the neck. No visible injection site. Weird.
Time to do what he did best, he supposed. Tim took a few minutes to snap several images of the body with the miniature camera in his belt, then collected a few samples before returning to the Batcave. He stood silently in front of the computer, his mask now abandoned nearby and his blue eyes slimmed as he analyzed the chemical compound depicted on the screen and the other windows of information cluttered around it. That definitely wasn't straight Venom, though it looked similar at the molecular level and in its effects. So that begged the question: what was it? And just as importantly, where did it come from? Tim reached up to activate his comm-link and access Dick's channel. "Hey, it's me. Are you still looking into that Venom case?" Tim asked. "Because I think I have a lead."
