Players: Currently unknown! Location(s): Star City's west side Plot Summary: A wealthy bureaucrat has gone missing and as a favor to the Green Arrow, Superman checks it out.
Superman was not too accustomed to Star City, nor was Star City accustomed to Superman. Flying low over the city gave Superman a slightly awkward feeling, the people didn't glance up at him and wave or smile or occasionally cheer as he passed; instead most of them stared in bewilderment or ducked for cover whenever his shadow cast over them. It made Superman realize how different Star was from Metropolis. Sure both places were bustling cities with a strong working class but Star City seemed a bit more "grounded", Superman thought was the appropriate word. Their hero and protector was a man who used a bow and arrow, though mostly modified arrows he still wasn't flying around blasting lasers from his eyes. With a soft sigh Superman made a quick turn out of sight and landed on a rooftop where it was just him and a large AC unit. He was here on request from Ollie to help in a matter he himself was too busy to deal with (something in Somalia if Supes remembered correctly). A man by the name of Jacob Reynolds had flown into Star City that morning and just before a meeting with city officials he went missing from his hotel. So far Ollie hadn't gotten much on Reynolds' background but he promised to keep Superman as updated as he could. Superman on the other hand would begin his look into Reynolds' disappearance by visiting the man's hotel.

Even superheroes had days off, and she was taking her personal time. Of course she had to keep an ear out for trouble. She should have been in Metropolis with her personal time. However, even Supergirl played hookie every now and again. Watchtower was watching, Superman was supposed to be around. Though when she found out they were in the same town instead, she’d feel a little guilty. She was on the ground, unlike Superman who was in the sky. Her hair up in a side ponytail and her S insignia on her black t-shirt that she borrowed from Superboy a long time ago, just never gave it back. It was tied to the side, and then a jean skirt, that was no longer than her super hero one. Though there was spandex on underneath. The bubble gum cracked loudly as she popped it, flashing a smile at someone as she moved by. She was window shopping. Mostly because she couldn’t afford much, Bruce a while ago had given her a hefty sum for a Kyrptonian artifact she had traded for him, and most of that money was saved for rent in her apartment. So window shopping was her… therapy that didn’t stress out her wallet.
The shadow caused people to duck down but it made Supergirl turn her head upward. Instantly Kara felt a slight sick feeling. Oh, so maybe she should be back in Metropolis if the big man was here. She bit her lip ducking into an alley before she hopped up off the ground and onto the next roof building, hopping over to the one where Superman was perched on with the AC unit catching the red cape. She admired how he fit the image. The Super hero cookie cutter. Part of her wanted to be like that, but then again, she didn’t want to live in his shadow. ”Hey.” she announced herself and smiled adjusting the purse strap, ”Thought that was you in the sky, what are you…doing in Star City?”

Superman was just about to lift off from the rooftop when he sensed the presence of another. A soft smile came to his face as the voice of Kara Zor-El spoke up. He turned with smile still on face, "Hey to you too." He was surprised to see her there, about as she and the rest of the people in Star City were surprised to see him. "A favor. Green Arrow's got his hands tied at the moment so he asked if I could look into a disappearance." So that clearly confirmed that Superman was here on business, however by the looks of the purse slung over Kara's shoulder and her attire his cousin was not in Star for such reasons.
"What about you, vacationing?" He joked, "It's great seeing you Kara but we'll have to catch up a little later. Rao knows I'm no Batman when it comes to detective work so I'll need to jump onto the case as quickly as I can." He didn't want to risk allowing any clues to escape him, especially since a life was in danger and a friend of his was counting on him to take care of his city. Maybe Kara could lend him a hand, that was if she happened to have her appropriate costume with her. Sure the black shirt with the S shield worked for Conner but seeing Supergirl in that attire might throw some people off. If she did tag along though it'd give Superman some much needed backup and it would also give them a chance to catch up at the same time.
Red boots left the rooftop just shy of a full foot, Superman turned his body partially away from Kara and gave her a waiting look. "You're welcome to help out, if you have the time." He'd spent too much time away from his family anyway.

Kara wasn’t nervous, she was just happy to see him. He’d been gone for a while, moving between the two worlds, trying to make peace. She beamed at his recognition and stepped closer to the edge of the building. ”Oh, I see.” Ollie was a good friend she could understand that he needed some help. She looked up at him feeling a tad under dressed for the occasion. She didn’t know why, she was practically in her outfit, S insignia that matched him and all. But she smiled, ”Well if I’d known you were going to be here I’d be at home.” she blew a strand of stray blonde hair out of her face.
She frowned, right he had work to do and she was holding him up. She smiled sheepishly, ”Right, course you do.” she nodded giving a mock salute. She chewed on her lip, ”Since you’re around we should do a patrol together or something like that.” she nodded. She reluctantly took a step back as the red boots left the rooftop. She expected him to be gone in the second but he paused. And she lit up like Christmas, ”What? Really?” she might have felt like being in Superman’s shadow, but being around him helped her learn how to be like him. Like a Robin to a Batman, she wanted to be her mentor… and like Dick maybe someday she’d have to step up to the plate.
She was gone for a millisecond and in the return she was in her usual attire, excited, and lifted off to do a circle around him, ”Where are we headed?” and she tried her best to hide the excitement. It had been far too long since her and Kal had worked together. Not to mention she felt bad, she had a long streak of wanting to do things on her own. Trying to prove herself, she didn’t…care as much anymore. She liked her cousin. She wanted to help and prove herself useful.

Kara seemed to be in a good mood. Honestly if Clark had any control over the situation he'd spend a lot more time with her, and as that thought crept past his mind he bit his lip. He was making an excuse, he did have control over whether or not he saw his family. Lately things had just been so busy for him and maybe he was doing too much by trying to be an influence on both Earth and Krypton but he felt it was something he truly had to do. It was just unfortunate that his friends and family had to suffer because of it. That was why he extended the invite to Kara to join him in this case in Star City, extra (superpowered) eyes would be a help sure but it was really a great chance for the both of them to catch up. They were both in Star City for a reason, right?
"I'm sure Metropolis can handle a few hours with a Super around. Unless you were saying that because you're avoiding me." He gave her a teasing look and smiled. It was nice talking to family, it just felt so right and comforting. Regrettably though time to talk was short and even now wasn't the best time, but Superman supposed they had to make due with what they had. He laughed outloud at Kara's enthusiasm to work together on this case, she was so bubbly and just as happy as he was to spend time together. It was cute. Who'd have known the girl who beat him to a pulp when they first met could come off as a cute little teenager. Even though Kara was his cousin she felt a lot more like a sister to Clark. And being that Clark was an only child and only kryptonian for so long, that was nice to feel.
"C'mon." He nodded his head back as he began drifting in that same direction, "We're headed to the Roosevelt Hotel. Jacob Reynolds checked in this morning and was supposed to meet with Star City's mayor and his staff - ten hours ago. No one's seen him since check-in. We're going to poke around his hotel room just a little, find what we can and see where it leads us. Hopefully Green Arrow will be in touch as well to give us a little more background info on Reynolds."
It wasn't often that Clark played detective, that was usually Bruce's schtick. He was good in mechanics and many scientific fields but puzzles were not one of Superman's many talents. Still he was going to put his best foot forward and get to the end of this mystery.

She didn’t mean to seem so excited, it was slightly embarrassing. But she did miss working with him. She had been on her own for a while now and while she liked that, it didn’t mean she hated her cousin or anything. So she was happy for this chance. She was flying beside him, as they started off and she listened intently. This didn’t sound like Superman’s sort of thing. This was Batman’s sort of deal. Detective work. She nodded along though, keeping all the details he gave her in her head as they lifted off and started toward their destination.
”So we’re snooping.” she asked as she followed him, ”And this guy is important because?” she questioned, her head tilting again. If they had an idea of why someone would want him that might narrow down the options. Kara was smart, but she wasn’t the brains of the outfit. She usually punched her way to victory. She chewed on her lip. ”How soon till we know… something about this guy?” she asked, ”He could have been involved in something and whoever took him could be those people. Political gangs, etc.” she recited her teachings. Robin was the same way sometimes, she picked up a few things from the Little Batman.

Turning straight now Superman flew ahead with both arms stretched out in front of him. His navigation skills were particularly impressive though not many people knew, but given that he hardly spent time in Star City Superman was still knowledgable of its layout. The Man of Steel had much time to himself even stretched between working and saving the world, and a lot of that time was spent learning and thinking. He had moved away from research and trying to fix every single one of the world's problems, as Superman believed it made the world too dependent and would eventually cripple them indefinitely, and so instead he committed himself to learning everything he possibly could about the planet. It's various fields of politics, ancient languages and arts, and yes even locations and directions of every city in the United States.
The people of Star City may not have been familiar with the caped Kryptonian but he was certainly familiar with their city. "Because he's wealthy." Superman answered in a short snap, his eyes narrowed instinctively as his words were delivered. Immediately Superman corrected himself, "He's wealthy and could be very important to Star City. The specifics will come from Green Arrow shortly - I hope." Superman hoped that was a good enough recover and inwardly cursed himself for his original outburst. Being that Superman as Clark Kent had been raised by middle class farmers who struggled often he did not like this apparent view that those worth more and made more were any more important that others.
He tried not to get into his own views too much and express them in such broad forms but he knew that this whole thing was about Reynolds being a bureaucrat who was worth millions. Superman also had to remember that it was Green Arrow who'd sent him out on this case, so there had to be more to it.
"I don't really know. Arrow's still busy outside of the country but if he can get his hands untied quick enough we should be getting at least a little something soon. It's possible Kara, but for now we don't assume." That was something Bruce had taught him, which was actually odd because Bruce himself always assumed; even if it was the worst he was assuming.
The Roosevelt Hotel came into view and Superman slowed just slightly, taking the moment to scan the building with his xray vision to locate Reynolds' room. "Otherside, fourteenth floor, this way." Rounding the building Superman and Supergirl illegally entered the building via window. He really was doing the Batman thing. The room was clear and looked ordinary, no sign of a struggle or any foul play. "Look for anything suspicious."

Things weren’t much different back where they were from. Though intelligence tended to put you more on the map rather than money. But here on Earth, their currency was what kept their world turning. She noticed that. Bruce had a lot of money, she knew that, but you didn’t see him flaunting it or getting into too much trouble. Maybe that was because he was Batman; he didn’t want the attention so he didn’t go around that much. Well back then at least. She didn’t know what his plans were these days, but Dick said it was something unusual. Something that he hadn’t been expecting. She figured she should trust Bruce to do his own thing. That his judgment was probably for the better and that he was probably doing this for a reason. But that still didn’t make her itch. Leaving the life so easily. Leaving it to someone else didn’t really seem like something Bruce might even invest in doing in the first place. So she was even more confused. But this wasn’t about Bruce; this was about another wealthy man in some serious trouble. She did notice slightly that it seemed to bother Kal that someone of wealth made them more important. But she kept her mouth shut. ”Okay.” she merely confirmed she understood why.
Arrow was outside the country so this was their big thing, okay. She didn’t know what she was expecting from this. If Arrow could handle it so could they. But she had underestimated the bad guy before. She was trying to do that less. Just because they were human didn’t mean they were any less dangerous than the rest of them. They were all equally dangerous. They found ways to be dangerous. She nodded her head. We don’t assume, ”I won’t assume.” Bias opinions lead to bad decisions, she learned. So she wouldn’t assume. She would only focus on the evidence that they had. Even though it was pretty likely that someone with money was into something a little over his head and possibly above his pay grade.
The Roosevelt was far fancier than she had expected and she looked on the grounds, listening for anything she could from the people bellow, but picking nothing but chatter about the two figures in the sky. Foreign to the people bellow. What were they doing here? was the main question. But she snapped back to attention and smiled at him before following. ”Define suspicious… this room looks clean.” she moved around the room at a slight hover so she didn’t touch the ground at all really. She lead down to look under the bed.

For a moment Superman too hovered over the floor of the hotel room but it was not long before his red boots were strutting over the carpeted floor. His eyes narrowed as he crossed the floor back and forth. "Anything that may seem out of place, like it doesn't belong or something's missing." He replied to Supergirl as he went about checking the missing man's closet. Empty hangers, an iron, and shoes. They all were clean. Various types of vision saved Superman from having to collect and later analyze the objects.
Kara was absolutely right, the place did in fact look clean. The man they needed to find had checked into the hotel at about 3 am, his meeting was for 6am; he'd only be in his room for 3 hours at the most and yet no one had seen him since. The room may have looked clean but Superman was sure that something about it was dirty. He and Kara would just have to work diligently in uncovering what that was. While Supergirl checked under the bed Superman walked over to the nightstand where the missing bureaucrat's suitcase had been left propped against it. Without laying a hand on the case Superman peered through the fabric and searched its contents by way of his xray vision.
"Supes, you there?"
The familiar voice of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow finally came through on Superman's commlink. Superman stopped what he was doing and turned to face Kara. "I'm here. With Supergirl. Kara, listen in." With her super hearing she'd be able to hear what it was Ollie had to clue them in on without Superman later having to repeat it all back to her. "Go ahead." Hopefully this intel was useful.
"The missing man you're looking for is Jacob Reynolds. He has a small modest fortune and friends in high places. Guy's a pretty powerful businessman in a few states, got started with an impressive inheritance that he was bamboozled out of but managed to rebuild; anyway, backstory aside! He's been interested in Star City for a while now but could never get any of his plans into action as far as I know. After the whole things with Prometheus....after that, Reynolds began talking with city hall again. He wanted to come down and help rebuild and support the thousands now left homeless. So today he was supposed to finally get in the city and hash out plans and funds. That's the 'why he was here' now as far as why anyone would want to kidnap him? It could be the money, it could be a wish to see Star City continue struggling, or hell; it could be none of the above. I know this isn't all that helpful but its all I got for now. Oh! And I had O check hotel video, she didn't catch Reynolds leaving - on his own or against his will. You two find anything yet?"
Superman had digested everything Ollie had spread to them and though it didn't solve this case for them it at least gave them more knowledge of Reynolds and his purpose of being in Star City; thus it gave him some connections to the city that had otherwise been nonexistent. However as far as anything they'd found, Superman was completely empty handed. His blue eyes looked toward Kara once again, it all depended if she had found anything under that bed.
