Players: Superman/Starfire Location(s): New York neighborhood Plot Summary: A crazed human supremacist makes trouble for two of Earth's resident aliens.
A muscular aged man stood at the helm of a small battalion. His men stood armored and armed behind him facing his back as Col Schrader stared ahead at the small neighborhood laid out invitingly before them. "This is it men; our first stand. The first strike against the metahuman menace." The colonel with pure white at his temples breathed in deeply, his chest puffing out as he inhaled through his nostrils. "I love the smell of pending doom." Schrader cracked a grin and a few of his shoulders snickered. The leader of this private militia unfolded his thick arms and checked the two watches on his left wrist. "Cover your ears boys." Cloudy blue eyes stared at the second hand on both watches, anticipation and excitement building with each passing tick. And then finally.... B00000000OOOOOOOOOOOOooooommmm!!The neighborhood Col. Schrader and his men were watching diligently over suddenly erupted into fiery hell. Screams could be heard for but a fraction of a miserable second, soon completely swallowed by the victorious roars of burning flames. The entire neighborhood hadn't gone up in the inferno however, a large portion of the living area was only scorched while a cul-de-sac further down the way was completely unharmed. Schrader finally stopped looking at his watch to gaze at the fires burning and smoke rising. Behind him he could feel his men ready to break rank, but swiftly the older man threw an arm up with a closed fist. "Hold." He spoke in his heavy voice and immediately every man in his employ became as rigid as stone, even their sweat stopped in place. Secondary explosions then went off, killing and burning even more. Silently the Colonel nodded and then gave the order, "No survivors." His soldiers yelled in pure ecstasy before charging into the decimated neighborhood, guns cocked and ready.

The explosion rocked the city. Even miles away from the blasts, people were running and screaming, desperate to get away from what they believed would be the next one. Kori, on the other hand, had taken one look out the window of her apartment at the pillars of smoke and immediately headed straight for it. Prior to this, it had been a relatively quiet day - for New York City, at least - and she had heard of nothing that would lead her to suspect it would take such a turn for the worse. More often than not, those intent on harming others wanted their nefarious plots to be heard and feared so that they might induce the maximum amount of panic. It also had a great deal to do with their ego, she believed.
Regardless of whether or not anyone had been warned beforehand, it had happened and now consequences must be dealt. She didn't know who was responsible for this, but she would find out soon enough... and when she did, she would make sure that they greatly regretted their actions. Kori's green eyes were narrowed as she flew over the city, her hair streaming out behind her. From above, exactly what had happened became clear. Fire had engulfed the majority of the neighborhood while what appeared to be some sort of militia tore through what remained. Their motivation was unknown to her, but their intentions were clear. This was no escalated gang rivalry, as often was the case. There was barely anything left of the neighborhood following the explosions, and yet the men raced through it with their weapons ready. Their goal was complete and utter annihilation. Kori's face tightened int a scowl. Whoever they were, they would be stopped. Immediately.
The Tamaranean soared down to the destroyed neighborhood, one starbolt formed in each hand and ready to be unleashed. She stopped, hovering in the air above the group of soldiers. "Halt!" she barked. "This is your sole opportunity to surrender to the proper authorities. Resist and I will be unable to guarantee your safety." The gathered energy glowed threateningly in her hands. As much as she hoped that they would accept her offer of mercy (unlikely) she couldn't say that she would be horribly upset if they didn't. These people had just murdered an entire neighborhood full of people and planned on taking the lives of even more. If she had her way, their punishment would be severe.

The private militia was like a pack of amped frat boys. They ran around the neighborhood shouting and screaming and firing their guns into the air like they were just enjoying a good time at some party. Their leader didn't appreciate the unnecessary antics but he knew these men were his best and they would accomplish the goals that'd been set before them. As they combed through the destruction of the New York neighborhood anyone they found still clinging to life crawling through the wreckage was immediately gunned down in cold blood. As a group of men moved toward a house that managed to still stand after all the destruction that'd exploded around it one of them looked up to spot Starfire flying overhead.
"Hey," he elbowed one of his comrades and pointed to the sky. "Who's that?" Just as the group took notice of the flying orange skinned woman she began to speak typical heroic orders to them. "Dunno, but she's obviously not human." Another soldier in the group raised his weapon and peered through the sight, Starfire was locked dead on. He pulled the trigger and the weapon hissed before firing some type of emerald colored ball of energy. Air rippled around the ball of energy as it flew straight toward Kori.
Coming up on the destroyed neighborhood was a lone helicopter. It was a news chopper and after the explosions that'd gone off one of the New York news stations had quickly sent out a team to catch whatever it was that was going on. An on-board cameraman scanned the burned down homes and filmed the plumes of smoke that still lingered. Circling around the area of devastation it wasn't long before the news crew noticed Col. Schrader and his troops. As the aged man's face was caught on camera he could been seen moving his lips, clearly visible as mouthing the words, "Shoot down that chopper."
Three men grouped together; one standing while the other two kneelt before him. Each one pointed their rifles to the sky, the advanced weaponry hissing deeply before each one fired bolts of orange energy. "Pull up! Pull up!" The camera man shouted to his pilot as he watched the powered orbs rocket straight toward them. They were sitting ducks. The camera was dropped and the man shut his eyes tightly, prepared for impact and a horrible death, but neither ever came. When the man opened his eyes all he saw before him was a red flowing cape. Superman glanced over his shoulder and nodded to the pilot to get out of there. The Man of Steel groaned slightly at the sting he still felt in his chest and ribcage from taking those three blasts for the news crew.
"I'm going to say this once and only once. Lay down your guns and surrender peacefully." Superman was not going to give an ultimatum; surrender was the men's only choice.

The ball of energy flying toward her made their answer abundantly clear.
Kori's green eyes slimmed. The moved swiftly through the air to avoid the shot, then swooped down toward the soldiers. She knew what a serious mistake they had made, and it would only take a moment for them to realize this as well. That is, if they had a single brain cell to their name, which she wasn't completely convinced that they did. They raced into a neighborhood of innocent people, attacking them with no warning and when their enemies were unarmed... they were cowardly sheep just following orders without putting any thought into it. They had never even given these people a fighting chance. It was despicable.
The two starbolts were united and shot down at the ground before the soldiers, the energy intended to blast them backward. Upon landing, Kori used each hand to grab the weapons of the two nearest soldiers to her, and ripped them from their grasp with remarkably little effort before crushing the firearms in her hands. "This area is under my protection," she growled, "and you will leave at once!" She threw the destroyed weapons back at the soldiers and gathered two more starbolts in her hands. These men clearly fancied themselves soldiers, but they were the furthest things from that. They were only pathetic little boys with guns.
The sound of a helicopter grabbed her attention, and she muttered a quiet curse in Tamaranean under her breath. With weapons like these, a helicopter would be an easy target... and these men had already demonstrated their unwillingness to show any mercy. The alien princess rocketed back into the air. That helicopter had to get out of there now. "Move!" Kori shouted to the crew as she raced toward them, her voice drowned out by the sound of the propeller. Her eyes widened a second later as the bolts of energy came flying at the helicopter, only to have help arrive at the most crucial of moments.
Superman. If she had had to ask for any back-up, he would be at the top of the list. She didn't have to ask how he had known that New York needed his help when he was supposed to be in Metropolis; being where he was needed most was just what he did best. The words he spoke were not unlike her own, but this time she was absolutely positive that they would be a waste. "They have made it very clear they have no interest in surrendering," snarled Kori, her sights now locked back on the soldiers below.
