Players: Red Robin, Static Shock Location(s): Dakota City Plot Summary: Nazis! --
The kidnappings had made national news, but Tim had been looking into them for a while before then. It wasn't like he relied on the TV to give him updates on what was going on around the world anyway. Mallory Fanning, Jason Muessig, Annie Martindale and Erica Allen had all disappeared from within five miles of their homes over the course of the last month, and Tim wasn't completely unconvinced that the kidnapping of Sean Bliss (who had disappeared several months prior from the same radius around his home) was unrelated. The news had missed that one, though. They always missed something. Investigative journalism was definitely a lost art.
While Dakota wasn't usually on Tim's radar, he had already had one reason to visit and now he had two. He had landed the Batplane on one of the city's many expansive rooftops (where hopefully nobody would mind) and was now standing on the edge of said roof. He had called Virgil earlier and asked to meet up there, and it was now approximately five minutes prior to their designated meeting time. Originally, Tim's intention was solely to invite Virgil to the newest incarnation of the Titans. He had trained with him often before and he knew that the other young man was capable of. Despite hiding behind his humor (often at inopportune moments), he was a quick thinker, worked well on a team, and had a unique set of abilities. Months back, when the decision to get the team up and running again had still been in the planning stages, he had been one of the first people whom Tim had decided to invite onto the team.
It only seemed logical to use the opportunity to not only discuss the idea with Virgil, but to look into the kidnappings as well. His former teammate was great at what he did, but he wasn't a trained detective; they both had their strengths and it made sense to work together to make sure that those people were all returned home safely, if they were even still alive. Tim wasn't positive that Sean Bliss would be. It wasn't uncommon for serial killers to have a 'trial run' so to speak; Bliss might have been the first time he had ever abducted anyone, and a successful run with him may have given the kidnapper the confidence to strike again. It was much more likely that the kidnapper was killing them before kidnapping again, as having five adults under his control would be difficult, but it wasn't unheard of. Tim just had to keep his fingers crossed that they were all still alive and that nobody else would be taken.

He was in Dakota City again.
It seemed that Virgil had been coming here less and less lately. Joy tended to be the most free on the weekends and crime in New York City was much higher than he had assumed it was. Naturally it wasn’t as bad as Dakota City but it was enough to keep him occupied. As a result he had been forced to trust that the other heroes of Dakota City could handle things on their own. Yet when news had reached him that there had been a sudden slew of kidnappings in Dakota City Virgil had decided to investigate. It just so happened that Rocket and company had been far too busy to dedicate their focus to investigative work. It was understandable. Virgil was here to make headway on the case and put them on the right path. Then it was back to New York for him.
While Virgil had been gathering information on the kidnappings at home he had received a call from Tim. He had “something” to talk to him about. Virgil wasn’t sure what it was but it was something worth looking into. So he was on his way to meeting with Tim near one of the high rise apartments on the East Size. The apartment was barely populated and brand new. It was basically another example of the gentrification happening in Dakota City. It was something that didn’t sit well with Static but he had little control over it. Right now they needed to focus on these murders. Virgil had mentioned it off hand over the phone but naturally Tim was several steps ahead of him. Yet Virgil had done all the research and was striving to impress his friend. Tim was always that guy you wanted to impress. He was a leader like that. He led through example and others strived to follow it.
As he flew towards the building he wound up having to stop a drunk driver from committing vehicular manslaughter against a young couple, end a mugging and fetch a girl’s dog from a tree. It was only in Dakota City where a dog would find its way in a tree. By the time he showed up at the apartment he was fifteen minutes late. “Sorry man, da city never sleeps.” He said as he floated in front of Tim. “Long time no see.” He said as they bumped fists. “Anyway, you called and I answered. Sup?” He couldn’t exactly curb the accent. Not when he was in his hometown. It wasn’t like he wanted to either.

Tim checked the time. Virgil should be there within a few minutes. He was a bit early - arriving somewhere on time usually made him feel like he was already late - and with as busy as the other young man was, Tim didn't expect Virgil to be able to just show up to chat at the drop of a hat. Nobody in this business had that kind of flexibility, minus those who could run somewhere in the literal blink of an eye. Soon enough, though, he caught a glimpse of his friend cruising through the air toward the building he had parked the jet on. As busy as Virgil had to be, Tim was glad that he was able to meet up with him. This many kidnappings in such a short amount of time was unsettling, and even if Dakota wasn't 'his' town, he would be a lot happier when this case was solved. No detective liked to see something like that go unsolved, and while Tim believed Static to be a perfectly capable individual, he wasn't an investigator. Besides, two heads were always better than one.
Tim grinned as he extended his arm to bump Static's fist. "Don't I know it." If Gotham was ever quiet, it was only because someone had something big in the works, so silence was usually scarier than anything. Big cities always seemed to be like that. San Francisco, as busy as it kept him, was one of the few that seemed to have most of its chaos take place during the day. At least that allowed Tim to have a little down time, if going through old cases could be considered that. To Tim, it was.
"Couple things," the former Robin replied as he dropped his arm back to his side, only to extend it again a moment later after withdrawing a folded up file from his belt. He handed the file to Static. "First thing is this. I'm guessing you've heard of the disappearances recently?" Whether or not he was actually investigating them was another question. He knew that Virgil spent most of his time in New York these days, so looking into the abductions may have fallen into the lap of another of Dakota's heroes. Either way, it was something that needed to be checked out and since Tim had other things he wanted to discuss with the other hero, it would be silly to go chasing after half of the city's protectors. In a case as urgent as this, it was best to keep things as simple as possible.
