At first glance, Carol Ferris can seem intimidating, capable and nearly apathetic, especially in a business setting. She understands that seriousness and a certain efficiency is required to reap any form of benefits, and makes the sacrifice of her public character being less than what it should be for the sake of progress. However, anyone who knows Carol personally knows how compassionate and empathetic she is. Few are capable of understanding another, no matter circumstance or lifestyle than Carol. She's also very clever and known for her wit. Enough so that she can keep the infamous Hal Jordan on his toes in a conversation.

Carol does not possess any innate superhuman powers.
Business Management- Carol runs the Ferris Aircraft company, and is considered not only a 'rising star' on that front, but also prodigious in her management skills.
Expert Pilot- Though her flying skills have never been on par with Hal's, Carol is still a cut above the rest when flying any form of aircraft.

Carol Ferris has no metahuman abilities on her own, however, when using the Star Sapphire Ring, she exhibits: Superhuman Strength, Speed, Stamina, Agility, Durability, Supersonic Flight and Immunity to Harsh Environments. Aside from physical augmentation of normal bodily functions, each Star Sapphire is granted:
Energy Projection The ring can be used to fire blasts of Zamaron energy or create weapons such as projectiles of them. If the user wishes, they can alter the form of the blasts.
Force-Field Generation The ring can create various force fields of various sizes and shapes to protect the wearer and others around her.
Energy Constructs The ring can form constructs of Zamaron energy. Virtually anything can be created depending on the user. If simulating a being, the user can direct the construct. Feedback occurs if a construct is destroyed, but this is usually a minor issue.

Without the ring activated, Carol is just a mortal woman with all the weaknesses and frailties therein.

Carl Ferris, owner of the Ferris Aircraft Company, decided to retire early and travel the world, leaving his daughter Carol president of the company. Carol hired Hal Jordan and quickly found herself attracted to the fearless test pilot, but would not date him because he was her employee. Carol Ferris fell in love with the hero Green Lantern, unaware that he was her test pilot Hal Jordon.
Coincidentally, Ferris was selected to become the queen of an immortal race of extraterrestrial women warriors known as Zamarons, but did not desire to leave Earth because of her love for Green Lantern. Desperate for their queen, the Zamarons hypnotized Ferris into thinking Green Lantern was her enemy. When she was defeated by the emerald gladiator, the Zamarons deemed Ferris unworthy of leadership and removed her memory of being Star Sapphire, although they left behind both the gem and a subconscious knowledge of her powers.
Throughout the years, it has been revealed that 'Star Sapphire' was actually a being composed of Zamaronian energy and a separate entity that was simply inhabiting Carol's body. From this energy, the Predator (basically 'Star Sapphire's male counterpart) emerged to protect both of them. Finally, Hal managed to extricate the Star Sapphire gem from Carol and allow her to destroy it - ultimately vanquishing the entity and the Predator.
Later, while driving Hal's plane in a bid to clear her head, Carol was intercepted by a Star Sapphire ring that synced with her, taking her to Zamaron where she was inducted into the Star Sapphire Corps. Originally Carol refused to be a part of the Corps, but when news of the Blackest Night and that Hal was destined to die during it reached Carol, she accepted. Banding with members from other Corps, Carol played an integral part in defeating the threat.

"I told you that I'll have the paperwork drawn up and ready at our meeting on Monday." Carol had a phone pressed between her ear and shoulder, a stack of papers that she was scribbling away at with a fountain pen and her secretary waving a memo in front of her face all at the same time. The woman held up a finger to fend off the assistant. When that didn't work, Carol shot her a dirty look and promptly turned her chair around to face the grand window behind her desk that let on to her private balcony overlooking the runways.
"I understand that you want your lawyers to look over the agreement thoroughly, and there will be time for that. You won't be able to do anything with the paperwork until our meeting on Monday, anyway, so there really shouldn't be any problem." Carol massaged her temple with her free hand and crossed her legs to relieve some of the agitation she was feeling with the prissy businessman on the other end of the line. "Fine. I'll have them faxed to you tomorrow morning."
He wanted to complain, but with the secretary having moved around the desk and now dancing in front of her with a memo, Carol's patience had run its course. "Nice talking with you, Mr Carter. I look forward to seeing you Monday." She turned around and firmly hung up the phone. Carol now pressed on her temples with both hands, until her secretary waved a sticky-note in front of her face.
"What, Martha?" The blond, buxom woman widened her eyes in surprise at the snapping question, then narrowed them in irritation. "I thought you'd like to know that you got a message from a gentleman." Martha looked at her wickedly. "But I guess I was wrong," she said in feigned carelessness. "I'll just throw this in the bin." Carol reached up behind Martha and snatched the piece of paper from her fingers. Carol was so busy investigating that she didn't even hear Martha say 'I told you so' and leave the office.
The sticky-note held what Martha must have thought was complete gibberish. Carol recognized it for what it was, though. A form of code that she and a certain someone once used when they were children. Carol racked her brain to remember the exact form and quickly translated it. "'I've always liked the view from your balcony'?" Carol gasped in anxious disbelief. She jumped up from her seat, slipped through the window-door behind her desk and on to the balcony.
Once outside with the sound of airplanes meeting her thankful ears and the scent of the breeze off the nearby ocean, Carol scanned the skies with glee she could barely contain. "You'd better not be playing with me, Hal," she muttered, "Green Lantern or no, I'll kick your ass." Carol crossed her arms to gain some kind of warmth through the silky button-up shirt and pencil skirt she wore.
